Michigan Lovers Deliver Gifts to Hurricane
Katrina Victims
Janice Wells
Dear Larry & Jean,
You may never see the blessing of your camper, but it is multiplying
already. Ernest stopped by Tom & Pat’s to pick up the
camper this afternoon. He needs it just for 2 or 3 weeks to stay
in while he is staying at his father’s home. His father flooded
also but because it was a 2-story home they are living up stairs
while they clean out the ground floor. Like most families here,
other family members have been taken in also so I'm sure it is a
little crowded. Kelly is flying in this week from Florida to share
the camper with Ernest while she goes into the house to beginning
trying to salvage some china or anything else that remains.
It was Ernest & Kelly's Little Academy that we visited in New
Orleans East on Sunday. Tom said that Ernest was still quiet when
he got there to get the camper but after hanging out for a little
while he did begin to relax a little. I'm sure he is still overwhelmed
and I'm sure does not know where to begin. We will make sure we
get a picture of Kelly & Ernest with the camper so you can put
a face to the name. It really is making a difference. I can't remember
if I told you that Ernest and Kelly are presenters in Training for
ME. Without the camper Ernest & Kelly would have no private
space to share and love one another during this most difficult time.
A crowded family home is no place to be during the traumatic next
few days. Your gift will give them a cocoon to escape to. So I disagree
with you, this is not enough. It is a wonderful gift and I believe
they will feel surrounded by a wonderful feeling when they are in
your camper. Knowing that you travel so far to delivery this gift,
will mean a lot to them as it does to our entire community.
Love & Hugs,
Janice & John

Subject: Home at last
Dear Loved ones,
We are finally home, and yes Janice, it was great sleeping in
our own beds. My heart still goes out to all of you. Sunday night
was hard on me (Jean) as tears came to me easy and often. For you
to have to live with the devastation that we saw day in and day
out, please know our prayers all with you always. I (Jean) still
feel that we did not do enough and wish we could have done more.
I know that God sent us there to add just a penny to the wishing
well, but I wish I had thousands of pennies to fill the well to
overflowing.
We will have you in our prayers always. And our doors ore always
open to any of you who need a time out.
Larry & Jean

Dear Larry & Jean,
Just another word of thanks for your generosity and compassion
for our community. Because of your thoughtfulness, my sisters' family
slept on mattresses for the first time in quite a while. We thank
you for your loving and unselfish gifts to us.

Subject: Camper arrived on the wings of love from Larson's ME Michigan
Dear Larry & Jean,
We loved our little get together with y'all on Saturday night.
It was wonderful to welcome you when you arrived with your camper
pop up in tow. It was like the Christmas sack that never emptied
as you kept reaching into the truck on Sat. night and the camper
on Sunday morning to offload mattresses, pillows, blankets, bedding,
cleaning supplies, stuffed animals and linens - enough to make so
many families happy and to meet a great need. More than anything
to be reminded of the love and concern our national family feels
for our families here. There are not enough words to express the
love and thanks we feel for you all in Michigan and for you (Larry
& Jean) in particular for the great generosity in the donation
of the camper to the ME community. We did not dare ask the cost
of gas alone in making the journey to give a needy family these
gifts, but we greatly appreciate it. It will be difficult to keep
our ME family together, strong and growing, but we know these gifts
of love will help us do just that.
I know John took you for short drive around our town on Saturday
evening, so you had a chance to see just a little of the devastation.
But I will never forget our drive into New Orleans via the Highway
11 Bridge on Sunday after Mass. It was the first time I had driven
further down than Our Lady of Lourdes Church and School. The drive
closer to the lake is one that takes your breath away at the awesome
power of Katrina. Just writing about it brings tears to my eyes
again. I had purposely not gone closer to the Lake because I didn't
think I could handle it. But I don't think you are ever ready to
see this much damage. There are no words that can express how awful
it looked and still smells. It is like a great silence and pain
enters your heart and mind and it is unspeakable. I am quite sure
that if a thousand battleships had pounded the north shore with
their big guns for a week it could not have looked any worse than
this.
But I wanted you to know that having you come to our aid was a
feeling of when you are hurt and your parents wrap you in their
arms safe and warm and just for a moment makes everything feel better.
We have felt the warmth of your love and concern and the healing
can now begin. Thank you.
I am glad you got meet a few from our community. The evening made
us feel a little more normal.
Enjoy your next get-together with your "Circle" and
let us know what is your favorite Marriage Renewal Experience.
Love & Hugs,
Janice & John
Larry & Jean, if you are ever able to put into words the scenes
you witnessed this morning I hope you will send it to us, because
I was speechless.
