Massachusetts WWME Family Camping Experience

Ray & Beth Ginepro

Despite all the rain lately, twelve families and couples came to play and pray together at the Massachusetts WWME Cabin Experience, August 8-10 in Goshen, MA. Those arriving Friday night settled into their cabins (now equipped with electric lights!) and fell asleep to sounds of nature and rain on the roof.

What a wonderful surprise to wake Saturday to bright overcast skies, but no rain! Folks took good advantage of the swimming, canoeing, paddleboats and fishing down at the lake. The water was like glass in the morning, mirroring the beautiful forest scenery at the water's edge. Afternoon games began with the annual adults and kids pie eating contest. Sara Destromp was this year's winner for the children. Dan Robillard reclaimed his title as champion pie eater from last year's champ, Ray Ginepro. The scavenger hunt followed with children searching in teams of 2, 3, or 4 for such items as dialogue books, the longest and most recently encountered couples, flashlights, pinecones, wildflowers, next year's campout date, and so on. The winning scavenger hunt team was Kayla, Sara, Emily and Mellisa. Team sports continued with a shirts vs. skins basketball game in the gym, followed by an adults vs. kids soccer game outside. In a close match the whippersnappers beat the geezers 7-6. Then it was off to the showers to get ready for mass.

WWME gratefully acknowledges Fr. Chris Malatesta's help in making this wonderful family event possible every year for the WWME Community. The rain held off till 10:00pm when the skies opened up dumping buckets as folks scrambled under the tarps and into cabins. Remarkably the bonfire was still lit the next morning for breakfast cooking!

Sound like fun? Save the date for next year's WWME Cabin experience, August 6-8, 2004. You can e-mail the registration couple: Kathy & John Danielczuk for more information at: .
