Long Island Loveboat

We are Vinny & Isabell McGuire from Long Island, New York and we head up the Recruiting Committee for Nassau/Suffolk counties. Having had to cancel a few Weekends, we tried to come up with a way to effectively bring couples to our Weekend. Being avid boaters ourselves, we find that being around water is very peaceful and has a very calming effect on us, so we came up with the idea of a Recruiting Boat Ride.

We offered the couples a combination information night/moonlight cruise on a fishing boat out of a local marina. The response was overwhelming. After we had overbooked the boat and had several couples on standby, we made a decision to rent a second boat, knowing possibly that we might not cover all the expenses. We wound up with 42 unencountered couples! ! !

When the sun began to set, we began the information night and watched as silence came over everyone as the presenting couple told their story. By the end of the night, 30 couples had signed up for the Weekend, and 3 more had to first check their work schedule before selecting a date. We found this to be a very effective way to recruit couples for the Weekend.

Unencountered couples are focused on the modern world so that we need to reach them in their own atmosphere. On a boat ride they're a captive audience and can't leave. Our community was great as they mingled and shared themselves during the evening. Everyone had a great time. The weather was a bit questionable with showers threatening all day, but we trusted that since He sent us these couples the sun would shine, and it did just as the boat left the dock. For us, the sun was shining all day in our hearts as we prayed while preparing for the boat ride.

Next year we plan to rent a larger boat so that all can be together and have a great time. What a super way to sell the Weekend. You might want to give it a try in your area sometime. Believe us, it works!!
