Love Float 2006
Bruce & Veta Hungerford
Dear Lovers,
THE LOVE FLOAT-AN INVITING EVENT!
Yes it is that time of year again when we begin thinking about
plans for the annual “Love Float”. Love Float 2006 is
the 23rd annual LOVE FLOAT weekend. It’s
a weekend to come together to celebrate the strength of couples
and families. This year the Love Float is scheduled for the weekend
of JULY 21-23 , 2006. Once again we are
working to begin a new tradition. Love Float 2006 is an opportunity
to INVITE that special (un-encountered) couple/family
to -accompany your family. YES IT IS AN INVITING EVENT!!
Bring someone with you to experience the love and acceptance of
the Marriage Encounter community. We plan to have a short informational
about the Marriage Encounter Weekend on Saturday evening. YOU WILL
FIND TWO REGISTRATION FORMS, ONE FOR YOUR FAMILY,
ONE FOR YOUR INVITED FAMILY. We are leaving it up to you to work
out the details with your invited guests concerning payment for
the family costs. We do ask that you put your name as inviting couple
on the other registration. You are welcome to attend the Love Float
even if you don’t bring an un-encountered couple with you,
BUT we ask that you seriously consider offering this opportunity
to someone.
Once again we will gather at Keller State Park, near Long Pine,
on Friday evening. For those of you who have never attended we are
enclosing a map. Most families camp at the park in tents or camper
trailers. Water and electricity are available. As with most state
parks, there are camping fees, the amount varies according to the
type of site and services selected by you. If you are not a camper,
there are motels in Ainsworth and cabins in Long Pine. Park
permits are required by all that enter the park. If you
are unable to get one before you come, park permits are available
at the Rock County Sheriff’s office in Bassett, the Nebraska
Game & Parks office in Bassett or Cody’s in Ainsworth.
“One Day” passes can be purchased in the park. Park
permits are available online also at www.outdoornebraska.org.
Saturday morning we will travel to the Niobrara River via buses.
After floating down the river on “supertubes”, we will
return to Keller Park for an evening of fun and relaxation. Saturday
evening will include supper and church services (Catholic Mass and
an Interfaith service) AND the ME information presentation. Sunday
is a day of fun and fellowship. Families are invited to stay as
long as you like or leave when you need to. We will have group activities
if you wish to participate as well as hiking and fishing (bring
your fishing gear and fishing license).
Even though we try to keep costs to a minimum, we continue to
deal with rising costs. The price of the “supertubes”
and the buses continue to rise. We assure you that the “Love
Float Circle” is not making money from this event. We remind
you to request the number of tubes to meet the needs of your family.
Capacity of the tubes is two adults or three children, or two adults
and a small child. Mark the reservation with the number of tubes
needed by your family. The cost of the food and transportation
are combined and figured per person, 5 years and older.
You do not pay this charge for children under 5.
It is important that you make your reservation as early as possible.
We cannot accept “last minute” reservations. The deadline
for reservations is July 1. Because we realize that sometimes plans
must be changed, we will make refunds up to July 1. We regret that
we will not be able to make refunds after that date, due to being
locked into our costs. Reservations will be accepted on a “first
come-first served” basis in case the numbers exceed the capacity
of the buses or the number of tubes available. If you do not want
to float the river, we invite you to join us for the fun and fellowship.
Your cost would not include the cost of the tubes.
As the “Love Float” circle we decided that we must
keep safety in mind. We have been very fortunate in the past years
that we have not had any severe injuries, however we have had some
“close calls”. We are not comfortable when young children
sit on the edge of the tubes, with feet hanging in the water or
are allowed to float along beside the tubes. We also ask that you
talk with your “children” (years of age may not be a
factor) about the dangers of standing and walking on the tubes as
we float. We do not want to make anyone think there are great dangers
lurking in the waters of the Niobrara River however we believe a
healthy respect for the river is important. While our main concerns
center around the “float” we appreciate your awareness
of safety issues for your family members at all times during the
weekend. We as a love circle cannot accept responsibility for injury
during the weekend.
The “Love Float” circle is excited to once again host
special families from around the region. We want you to relax and
enjoy your weekend. We also like the chance to spend time with all
of you and enjoy the weekend and we welcome your offers of assistance.
Some of the tasks that we would welcome your help with are packing
coolers for the river float, setting up for meals, clean up after
meals, on-going trash detail. If you don’t know what to do
but would like to help, just ask one of the hosting couples.
As in the past, the float will be “dry” until after
we eat lunch, meaning ABSOLUTELY no water fights allowed.
As in the past, if there is interest, we will divide into “dry”,
“damp” and “wet” groups after lunch. We
understand that there are some people who do not like getting caught
“in the line of fire”.
