2007 Detroit Area WWME Share the Dream Rally

Charlie & Dairdre McGlothlin

Hosted by: Oakland Zone & Detroit Area Inviting Coordinators

On March 24, 2007 the WWME (Section 6) Detroit Area community gathered at St. Michael’s church hall in Southfield, Michigan to set sail on the Love Boat for the 2007 Share the Dream Rally. Bon Voyage!! A pleasant journey it was, as this southeast Michigan Worldwide Marriage Encounter community set sail on a fun-filled and motivational inviting experience.

This cruise ship themed evening was created and made possible by the four WEDS (Dialogue Sharing) groups in Oakland Zone and the Detroit Area Inviting Coordinators. Chris & Renee Pall, WEDS Coordinators for the Happy Huggers group, Charlie & Dairdre McGlothlin, WEDS Coordinators for the Hearts of the Hills group, and also Oakland Zone Coordinators, Jeff & Sue Bruck, WEDS Coordinators for the Lakes Area Lovers group, and Paul & Amy Scheidler WEDS Coordinators for the West Side Lovers group; Larry & Jean Larson, Inviting Coordinators for the Macomb Zone, and Chris & Renee Pall, Inviting Coordinators for the Oakland Zone (FYI - Detroit Area is divided into 3 zones – Oakland, Wayne/Monroe and Macomb, and each WEDS groups belong to one of these zones). Those who coordinated this Rally were surely a Dream Team as they, with many volunteers they recruited from their respective WEDS groups, contributed time, talent, and treasure to make this rally a huge success.

After a brief welcome and explanation of the evenings ports of call, Paul & Amy Scheidler delivered a motivational presentation that touched the hearts of all present as they shared their mixed bag of feelings from discomfort, apprehension, disappointment, determination, pride, confidence, and excitement in their inviting efforts over the past twenty two months since their WWME Weekend. In that short period of time, Paul & Amy have delivered a pulpit talk and invited fellow parishioners, friends, family, and total strangers to experience the Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend. Their stories of defeat and victory encouraged many new and long time WWME couples to be more involved in inviting activities. Paul & Amy’s presentation was followed by a 10/10 and small group sharing on specific ways the Detroit Area is going to reach out to couples identified in their dialogue process.

After their stimulating presentation and sharing process, the entire complement of passengers and ship’s crew was ready for a visit to the Midnight Buffet. Passengers and crew contributed to this exceptional culinary experience, which included everything from shrimp cocktail to a chocolate fountain. Following the feast, all were ready for a fun cruise ship activity. Small groups developed and presented their innovative travel poster to promote a get-away WWME Weekend. Immediately following the poster display came another featured attraction of the cruise, the 2007-2008 Inviting Challenge.

The inviting challenge was designed by our Detroit Area Inviting Coordinators and continues the travel theme for a year-long adventure culminating at next year’s Rally. WEDS groups will carry out a wide range of inviting activities which earn passport stamps to the 81 different countries that host the WWME Weekend. At the end of the challenge period, the WEDS group that has earned the most passport stamps, by traveling to the most countries via their inviting activities, will be treated to an international dinner hosted by the Oakland Zone WEDS groups and Detroit Area Inviting Coordinators.

After introducing this well-received inviting challenge, passengers were allowed to embark on excursions to booth activities designed to enhance inviting, support dialogue, get involved in community activities, support the Weekend, improve communication to encountered and perspective couples, and acquire rare WWME gifts and supplies. As passengers signed up and committed to activities at each of these ports of call, their passport was stamped and frequent flyer miles were awarded (raffle tickets). The evening cruise was concluded by cashing in frequent flyer miles for a chance on any of the 14 beautiful gift baskets donated by each of the 14 Detroit Area WEDS groups. Each basket carried a value of approximately $50. One final surprise gift basket was presented to Paul & Amy Scheidler by the Rally Dream Team for the exceptional contributions they made to the success of the 2007 Share the Dream Rally. The entire community echoed that appreciation with a standing ovation.
