eMatrimony
Celebrates Its First Anniversary

Happy Anniversary, eMatrimony
!
One year ago today, on Sunday, July 27, 2003, eMatrimony
was first unveiled to the Worldwide Marriage Encounter family at
the national
Convention in DeKalb, Illinois. An overview of the project and
a preview of the site was given to the assembled couples and priests
by editors Jack & Karen Baker of Bellevue, WA and webmasters
Ralph & Jane Becker of Milford, MA.
The presentation explained that Matrimony Magazine, which
had been WWME’s print publication for many years, had become
an expensive burden. With the growth in the availability of electronic
information, it became a natural to move the publication to the
internet. An online news resource for WWME became the dream of Bob
& Huli Tabone, the National Executive couple at that time.
The Bakers and Beckers were selected, and agreed to bring eMatrimony
to life. With much help from other couples, especially tech wizards
Gene & Mary Leduc from San Diego, CA, the necessary tasks were
accomplished. A site name was chosen, email addresses were configured,
server space was set up, development tools were selected, and the
site was designed and finally built.
At the 2003 Convention, eMatrimony
was displayed on the big screen
with several news articles, including pictures from the convention
itself! The value of being able to quickly post content online was
self-evident. The presentation went flawlessly (after a nerve-wracking
computer crash 15 minutes before the start!), and was enthusiastically
received by the audience.
In the year since its introduction, eMatrimony
has grown tremendously. There are now over 200 articles on the English-speaking
side of the site, with more being added all the time. Spanish-language
eMatrimony
opened in March of 2004. Visitors to the site have grown steadily.
Since September, 2003, an email newsletter called the “eMatrimony
News Flash”, has been published to draw readers’
attention to newly-published articles. Several ongoing features
have been added, including a prayer
intentions page, and most recently biographies
of our beloved WWME priests.
We hope that the best is yet to come! Come celebrate with us on
the first anniversary of your WWME news web site, eMatrimony.org
!
