Year 2004
Jack
& Karen Baker
Worldwide Marriage Encounter is not the only ones to recognize
the untiring love of James & Shaharriet Houchins. In May, 2004
the first Weekend in Alaska in four years was presented largely
the result of the efforts of James & Shaharriet. An interview
with Archbishop Roger Schwietz was due to the efforts of James &
Shaharriet. The Fourth of July parade representation for WWME in
Anchorage had the influence of James & Shaharriet.

James & Shaharriet Houchins
James and Shaharriet have been chosen Alaska’s Parents of
the Year for 2004. They were selected by the National
Parents Day Selection Committee to receive the 2004 Excellence
in Parenting Award. In addition they ranked in the top 8 parents
in the nation to be presented with the National Award at the National
Parents’ Day Awards banquet to be held in Washington, DC on
July 20, 2004. On July 24th after James & Shaharriet return
to Anchorage from Washington, DC, the City of Anchorage will hold
a picnic in their honor at the Valley Of the Moon Park.
James & Shaharriet have asked for our prayers for their family,
safe travel, and good health for Shaharriet’s mother Viola
Porter. Mrs. Porter will be providing care for the Houchins children
while James & Shaharriet travel to Washington, DC.
We have been offered a copy of an article to be posted in the Catholic
Anchor, the Diocesan Newspaper, and will post it when it is
available.
