Bob & Joy Hernandez and Fr. Chuck Kosanke, United States Secretariat Ecclesial Leadership Team, announced today that Bishop John J. Kaising has agreed to serve as the Episcopal Moderator for the Worldwide Marriage Encounter United States Secretariat, replacing Bishop William S. Skylstad, of the Diocese of Spokane, WA., who was recently elected as president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

Bob & Joy Hernandez explained: “Bishop Jack, as he is affectionately known in WWME, experienced a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend in 1978 and has served our movement in leadership at many levels, most recently as a Cadre Presenting Team. He is currently involved on the Core Committee for the WWME 2005 National Convention and is actively participating in the WWME out-reach to married couples in the military.”

“The Episcopal Moderator for WWME is a role accepted by a member of the episcopacy to serve as liaison between WWME and the greater Church, to speak the vision, values and mission of WWME to the episcopacy in the United States (USCCB),to advise WWME on matters pertaining to marriage and family that may be addressed by the USCCB, and to offer wisdom, guidance and prayer for all in WWME,” the Hernandez concluded.

Bishop Skylstad commented: “For over 25 years, Bishop Kaising has worked with Worldwide Marriage Encounter. As one very familiar with the movement and active in its work, he is an excellent choice to become the Episcopal Moderator of WWME. I extend to him congratulations and prayerful support as he begins this new role in support of married couples.”
