Information Conduits
Carlos & Efrend Garcia
One of the most important tasks for Section leaders is to serve
as active information conduits between the US Secretariat and the
areas in their section. Section leaders must be able to clearly
articulate their Section’s needs to the Secretariat. They
also have to convey the mission, vision and goals of the Secretariat
to their areas in terms that their areas can embrace. In Section
16 we bring the Secretariat to our areas at every Section meeting.
At our last Secretariat meeting we received a CD presentation of
the World Council meeting in Kenya from Bob & Joy Hernandez.
We shared this at our last Section meeting on February 19, 2005.
The presentation was very well received. It made it very clear that,
regardless of the setting and of the economic and political issues
of a nation, the needs of married couples are very similar and the
need to renew the church is the same in every culture. Although
poems don’t translate well, we thought that the poem by James
& Terri Kagucia of Kenya had a powerful message of love and
constancy. We translated it and gave copies to each area leader.
They were awed by the beauty and simplicity of this poem.
We also presented our version of the Bread and the Stone which
the Labates had presented at the Secretariat. Again, this motivation
was well received as it spoke to the attitudes that make or break
our relationship. At the end of our meeting, each couple shared
how they had truly been nourished by the meeting and felt a much
deeper sense of that need for collaboration and aggressive interdependence
that we talked about at the Secretariat.
