| News - Local Beginning Our Journey as Albany Area Leaders Jim & Gerri Gibney (Reprinted with permission from the Albany, NY Area July 2005 Capital Encounter) Dear Lovers, As we start our term, with Fr. Tony Diacetis, serving you as Albany Area Leaders for Worldwide Marriage Encounter, we’d like to ask you for your prayers and support as we set out on our journey. We have established a theme for our leadership term; we are “On a Mission for God with Passion, Perseverance and Perspiration.” We hope that all of you will join us on this Mission so that we, together, can make the world a better place through our couple love and our love for our community. All of us have been profoundly influenced by our Weekend, no matter when we made our Weekend. Our involvement with Marriage Encounter has extended for over 20 years. Over that time not only have we increased our intimacy and communication as a couple, but our family and community communication has benefited as well. We have come to know not only each other better, but also many wonderful couples and priests. It is a little amazing to us that those 44 hours we spent on that weekend so many years ago continues to have such a powerful influence on our life. We made that original Weekend because of one couple’s love for us. Encouraging us to attend. A couple that did not accept our first refusal, but continued to gently, and at times not so gently, encouraged us until we finally went on that life-changing Weekend. Perhaps you have had a similar experience of being encouraged to make the WE. But no matter if you were pushed or went enthusiastically you know the impact it has had on your relationship. Much like us it has given you the opportunity to share your life and relationship with other couples that have made a Weekend. The WWME experience has brought joy, understanding, and passion to all our relationships. What a Gift! There is an old cliché; ‘Love isn’t Love until you give it away’. We’d like to encourage you to take the gift of your love and give it, or maybe a better word is to share it with others. Invite your friends, relatives, and coworkers to make a Weekend. The chances are you have already done so and were ignored. Well use a little perseverance and ask them again. The World needs married couples in love that are living the values of family, community support, and faith in God in order to change the world. The World is not getting any less complicated. It is unbelievably challenging to our marriages and families. Many couples have found that their experience of the Weekend has renewed their relationship, and helped them to rekindle the deep, passionate love they have for one another. At the beginning of this letter we ask for your support as we start our journey. One of the primary ways you can support not only us, but yourselves as well is by joining us in increasing the number of couples that make a WWME Weekend. We ask you to redouble your efforts, use a little exertion, dare we say perspiration, invite a couple or two, to make a Weekend this year. Help us all grow our community of lovers.
