A Baltimore Beacon
Chris & Darla Phillips
For those who know them the names of Milt & Rosemarie Wiley,
immediately bring to mind a picture of a loving couple who work
continuously and unselfishly to enrich their relationship while
at the same time encouraging other couples to make their relationships
better by attending a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend. From
that picture begins a slide show that includes them presenting WWME
Weekends; traveling the length of Maryland as well as to Washington
and Virginia to show their love and support for the Weekend couples
that they pray for; arriving first to serve as the ‘hosts’
for numerous gatherings by setting up and preparing coffee and snacks
for team gatherings, World Marriage Day events, Weekend Reunions
and the Area Advent Party”. In July of 2005, their smiles
and enthusiasm served as a “Beacon” of welcome to those
of you who may have met them at the 2005 National Convention in
Towson, Maryland, where they served as one of the co-chairs for
the Hospitality Committee.
Recently that “Beacon” grew brighter as Milt &
Rosemarie once again showed their commitment to the values of WWME,
especially Daily Dialogue. On March 2, 2006, they reached 1000 DAYS
OF CONTINUOUS DIALOGUE and are still going strong.
Like many of us, after their weekend in May of 1992, Milt &
Rosemarie began to dialogue daily. They were religious about this,
but in today’s world other things come up and again, like
many of us, they may have missed a day here or there but they always
dialogued. Then about three years ago, they made a decision to renew
their commitment to make their dialogue a daily priority. March
2nd marked 1000 days of living out that renewed commitment. On that
day they reached 1000 days of continuous daily dialogues and they
are still counting! Just think, 1000 days of love letters and love
shared in open intimate dialogue with one another. What a wonderful
example to all of us that a radical lifestyle is possible even in
today’s world!
In the words of Charles & Mary Carol DiPaula, the area leadership
couple for Baltimore:
"We feel rejuvenated when we consider all that they do for
our community. They are like a cool breeze on a hot summer day.
Milt & Rosemarie like to remain in the background, never looking
for a thank you or any acknowledgement. They simply do whatever
is needed. They have always been supportive of leadership, team,
community, the Weekend, newly encountered couples, and their church.
What more can we say! They are a 'Baltimore Beacon', a lighthouse
for all to see."
