From before dawn to mid morning, groups of
people climbed Mt. Jumullong Manglo, Guam,
praying the rosary and stopping at the stations of the cross
on the annual Good
Friday pilgrimage. One group carried up a new 500 lb.
cross to erect next to the others. As low cloud bore down
on the hilltop, we felt the darkness of the crucifixion.
Then, while meditating at the top, we witnessed a Glory
- a circular rainbow around the observer’s shadow, rarely
seen from the ground - on the cloud just below us. It was
as if we were looking at the light of Christ's resurrection.
Combining two photos allowed us to re-live the deep spiritual
feelings from that moment of special beauty, of darkness and
light juxtaposed. Using Photoshop,
we combined our photo of the Glory and our photo of people
at the nearby crosses. It was wonderful to share both the
pilgrimage and the creative inspiration as a couple! |
