Rochester Area Celebrates Annual Lovers'
Ball
David & Claire Hall
Every year for the past nine years, the St. Michael’s Core
Group from Section 2’s Rochester, New York Area has put on
a fantastic celebration of our love. We call the celebration the
“Lovers’ Ball” and approximately 50 couples from
all over the area gather at the Burgundy Basin Inn in Pittsford,
New York for an evening of dining, dancing and community fun. This
year our celebration was on March 11th.
Everyone comes dressed to the nine’s and we have a new theme
each year. This year’s was “Romance” and we went
all out to create an intimate, romantic, and passionate evening.
The color scheme was red and black. There were long stemmed roses
and baby’s breath on each table. Each Core (sharing group)
danced to a romantic theme song which was picked especially for
them. There was a delicious sit-down dinner with wine followed by
a fantastic dessert table and of course plenty of chocolate.
Last year the theme was “Mardi Gras” – we decorated
the room with balloons in traditional green, purple and gold –
there were shimmering streamers cascading down the aisle as you
entered the ballroom – the tables were set with masks, noisemakers
and party hats.
The year before our theme was “A Night on the Town,”
– we had an elaborate entrance like at the Oscars with strips
of lights lining the runway. We projected clips from classic black
and white films onto a big screen in one corner of the ballroom.
On the table were triangular tent cards with stills from old movies
and again lots of chocolate.
Our community loves this event and looks forward to it every year.
We try to keep the theme a secret so as to surprise everyone. Who
knows what next year’s theme will be - but we do know that
one and all will have a great Community time together.
