South Jersey Community Enrichment Weekend

In South Jersey, a Community Enrichment weekend was held in April. The location was The Golden Inn in Avalon, NJ. The weekend was called “Keeping Your Relationship a Priority-You Have the Tools”. The outline was original and presentations were given by Weekend presenting team and community couples. The weekend began with a dessert party on Friday night. Along with the couples, encountered priests also were invited. A 15 minute power-point presentation was shown containing pictures of encountered couples and priests from all over the world doing their thing, which is changing the world.

The next morning, the day began with a short intro, followed by a mini- Encounter with Self presentation. The thinking was that many community couples made their Weekends under the “old” outline and as such weren’t familiar with personality styles. So many of us include our personality styles in our love circle talks that we thought it would be beneficial to get everyone on the same page. The day continued with one talk on four of the five tools we all received on the Weekend; Communication, Prayer, Re-evaluation, and Sex. Many of the presentations included skits, movie clips, songs, and power-point presentations that offered a departure from the traditional “couple behind a table” style of presenting. During the afternoon break there was an optional workshop on writing pulpit talks and love circle presentations. Saturday night, a DJ had us “twisting the night away”. Sunday morning the final presentation was “Journeying with Others and Journeying On Without Your Spouse”. Jackie Fries, a widow of Encounter delivered the latter portion of that presentation and made a deep impact on all of the 33 couples in attendance. The weekend ended with Mass and a spirited rendition of “New World”.
