Theology of the Body – Discovering God’s Glorious Plan
for Your Life!
Theology of the Body is the working title Pope John Paul II gave
to 129 short talks he delivered between September 1979 and November
1984. This body of knowledge has been called “one of the boldest
reconfigurations of Catholic theology in centuries,” according
to the Pope’s biographer, George Weigel. According to Christopher
West, author and much sought after speaker on this subject, Theology
of the Body is a biblical reflection on the meaning of the body,
sex, and marital love and goes on to address some of the most fundamental
and important questions of human existence to include:
• Why were we created male and female?
• Where do we come from and why?
• What is the meaning of life? How do we experience it?
• Why is there evil in the world and how do we overcome
it?
On October 21, 2006, thirty-six ME couples from the Greater Detroit
and Lansing, Michigan Areas attended a Day of Romance hosted by
Detroit’s Oakland Zone of WWME to participate in a four-part
Theology of the Body seminar presented, via DVD, by Christopher
West. Drawing on Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body,
Christopher shared God’s original plan for marriage and sexuality
and how an understanding of this plan gives profound meaning to
all our lives – married, single, and consecrated celibates.
Lindsey & Kelly Luttinen of the Detroit Area facilitated the
seminar by playing DVD segments followed by discussion, 10 &
10 reflection, and group sharing.

The Day of Romance ended with a beautiful celebration of the Mass
by Fr. Bob Weakley of St. Michael Church in Southfield, Michigan.
Parishioners of St. Michael extended a special blessing on the WWME
couples at the conclusion of Mass. The day was a true enrichment
for all in attendance. David & Jane Dewald, Greater Detroit
Area Leaders, summed up the experience nicely as follows, “We
left the day with so much to think about. We never realized there
was so much involved in God's true plan for us and the world! We
had taken so much for granted. This was one of those enrichments
that will stay with you the rest of your life.”
