Priest’s
Corner - World Priest Day
World Priest Day 2006 Activities in MA
and RI
Ralph & Jane Becker
For World Priest Day this year, our area (Massachusetts and Rhode
Island) send a letter of support and affirmation to all our area
priests. On the back of the letter was an hour-by-hour prayer vigil
for WPD. We did a mass mailing of over 1,600 letters, and hundreds
more went out electronically. Since then we have received dozens
of "Thank you" cards, notes, and emails from priests who
received our letter.
Boston Catholic Television (BCTV) is a station operated by the
Archdiocese of Boston. One of their shows is called "This is
the Day", a 30-minute talk-show format program that's broadcast
twice a week.
During the Friday, September 22 broadcast of "This is the
Day", Father Robert Reed, one of the hosts of the show, said
that he received our letter of support and affirmation for World
Priest Day, and read part of it on the air! He was very enthusiastic
about the letter, and expressed his appreciation for the support
and prayers for him and his fellow priests from WWME.
If you'd like to see this for yourself, you can watch the broadcast
online. You need to have the Real Player software installed on you
computer (available for free at http://www.real.com/).
Once you have Real installed, go to this web page:
http://bctvweb.catholictv.org/bctv_rp/This.html
Scroll to the bottom of the page and find "ThisIsTheDay_09-22-2006.rm"
and click on the "View" button next to it. This will send
the broadcast to your computer for you to watch. The segment of
interest starts about twelve and a half minutes into the broadcast.
We are very excited about this, and we're glad that WWME got such
positive publicity for our efforts.
