Priest's
Corner - World Priest Day
Baton Rouge/Acadiana World Priest Day 2006
Neil & Monica Darensbourg
On Saturday, September 16, 2006, the Baton
Rouge/Acadiana ME Community hosted a pot luck supper in Celebration
of World Priest Day. Letters of invitation from our Area Coordinators,
Barney & Kathy Bellard, were sent to the priests of the Diocese
of Baton Rouge and Acadiana asking them to join our ME Community
for an evening of appreciation in their honor. Personal invitations
were extended by ME couples.
As fourteen ME couples gathered with fourteen ME kids at St. Patrick’s
Family Center, we were honored to have His Excellency Robert E.
Muench, Bishop of Baton Rouge, join us for the evening, as well
as Fr. Jerry Martin (St. Patrick’s) and Fr. Tom Ranzino (St.
Jean Vianney), who serves as part of the Ecclesiastical Team for
the Baton Rouge/Acadian Area. In addition, we were especially pleased
to have Sr. Mary John Hotard (St. Jean Vianney) of the Religious
Order of St. Joseph share in the evening with us.

After extending a warm welcome and expressing to our guests the
Community’s appreciation for their dedication and service
to the Church and the Diocese of Baton Rouge, we gathered to enjoy
an array of delicious food prepared by the community. After the
meal, an enlightening game of Two Truths and a Lie was enjoyed by
the group. Several couples and our guests offered two truths and
a lie about themselves. The fun came with everyone guessing the
lie of the three statements. It was a delightful experience which
enhanced the love and fellowship of the evening.
Our World Priest Day Pot Luck Supper Celebration was a great success
with 58 people in attendance. There was plenty of food, fun, and
faith shared with all. In summary, there was 1 bishop, 2 priests,
1 nun, 14 ME Couples, and 14 ME kids, 158 years of religious life
and 321 years of married life for a total of 479 years of sacramental
and religious life. The banner, donated by Bruce & Mary Barth,
expressed the community’s heartfelt sentiments . . . We Love
Our Priests!
