The Old Ten and Ten Tribe

Fr. Charlie Coulter

(Excerpted from Spring 1992 Matrimony magazine)

San Tacto, CA, April 1, 2051
Archaeologists, excavating near here, have unearthed a cache of old notebooks which provide evidence of a newly discovered American trade that once flourished in the land. Full scale excavations at various sites near the abandoned cities of Nuevo Dialogo and Dialogo Produnda have yielded fossil traces of high research potential.

Skeletal remains show that the tribe was made up of equal numbers of women and men who apparently used to gather in small groups. The basic unit of the tribe was probably called a circle or a share. Some anthropological experts are suggesting that the tribe did not speak much because they wrote extensively in notebooks; an indication that they were a literate people for whom writing and communicating were important. However, other anthropologists contend that these notebooks had a cultic significance for the tribe. Psychologists who have examined the documents are of the opinion that they were highly sensitive and aware people who frequently checked out their feeling levels.

Some of the beliefs they write about are old fashioned values that are reminiscent of bygone days.....ideas like fidelity, love, generosity, sharing, and forgiveness. Most of the documents discovered so far reflect a Catholic influence. And the notebooks continually refer to a strong belief that the tribe could "change the world". In the early days the tribe apparently believed this, because thousands of the documents unearthed contain this ''change the world" refrain. In fact, the lyrics of their tribal song make reference to "a new world somewhere". Indications are that this tribal chant was part of the ritual when the tribe gathered.

Another strange practice which set this tribe apart from other tribes was something called a twenty. It was apparently very important for the health and survival of the tribe. The twenty was written as ten plus ten. Researchers working on one set of documents unearthed in an abandoned garage near San Tacto have tentatively named them "The Ten and Ten Tribe". However, so far, experts are unable to interpret the constant reference to WAMFTTTY. Some linguist suggest it may have been one of their overweight deities. Other tribal deities may have been related to astrological lights because there are many references to red lights and green lights. Tribal members were urged to look to these frequently.

Preliminary research on the unearthed notebooks indicate that, at one time, members of the Ten and Ten Tribe were to be found throughout the world. They had their own magazine, their own intricate organizational structure and communications network. And then, for some reason, the Ten and Ten Tribe gradually died out. Archaeologists are unable to discover the causes.

Like any parable, this is a roundabout way of getting to the point and the question.

WHAT HAVE I DONE TODAY TO KEEP THE TRIBE ALIVE? WAMFTTTY?
(What are my feelings, telling this to you?)
