A Tribute to Staff Sergeant Joseph M. Kane,
US Army
Nicole Scali
The following poem was written by Miss Nicole Scali. She is the
cousin of Staff
Sergeant Joseph Kane, killed in Iraq on October 14, 2006. Nicole
wrote this after she had gotten the news of her cousin’s death.
Thank a Soldier
Today we mourn a soldier
Who stood brave, proud and true
Who gave his life for millions
That he never knew
He stood beside the others
Steadfast through the night
So we could sleep in peace
Until the morning light
So we can have our freedom
All across the land
He did his job protecting us
Until God took his hand
We shed tears of sorrow
For our loss is great
But there’s a special place for Heroes
Beyond the pearly gate
For those who hear the calling
Of the red, white, and the blue
Who defend that which we stand for
And help other countries too
They are sent across the sea
Away to foreign lands
And spend their days and nights
Upon the desert sands
They have to leave their homes, their families,
Their neighbors and their friends
We must give our thanks to those, on whom,
Our way of life depends
So when you see a soldier
Step up to him and say,
“I’d like to give a heartfelt thanks
and tonight, for you, I’ll pray.”
For what they believe in
They pay a heavy price
And some of our dear soldiers
Their lives they sacrifice
So let’s never let a chance pass by
That we can let them know
What they do does matter
Wherever they may go
Tell them that we understand
What they face is real
And the broken hearts we have today
May begin to heal
So honor our lost soldier
And go forward in his name
He died serving our country
And our lives won’t be the same
So please thank the other soldiers
The ones far away and near
It doesn’t matter how
It’s just important that they hear
That we all stand behind them
As they serve the USA
And we ask that God watch over them
Each and every day
You are truly blessed
You have a hero for a son
He was a brother to be proud of
A friend like no other one
Our thoughts and prayers are with you
And we hope to ease your sorrows
As we stand beside you now and
Through all of your tomorrows
