Source of Pope John Paul II Quote Found
Jack & Karen Baker
The quote, “I place much of my hope for the future in Marriage
Encounter” has often been referenced but over the years no
one could remember exactly where or to whom the comment was made.
Some thought it was to a National or World Council leader. The question
is answered in the July/August 1979 issue of Worldwide Marriage
Encounter Family Spirit magazine.

During the recent visit of Canadian Bishops
to Rome, Bishop Charles Valois was asked by Pope John Paul II,
what he has for the people of his diocese, in particular what
he has for the needs of families. When Bishop Valois said he is
encouraging "Marriage Encounter" the Pope clasped his
hands and said,
"I place much of my hope for the future in Marriage
Encounter”
